Geography.
Make sense of our planet and its people. Our course follows Cambridge IGCSE Geography (0460), built around three themes — population and settlement, the natural environment, and economic development — supported by strong geographical and data-handling skills.
What to expect.
Students work through the three Cambridge themes using real-world case studies from around the world: population dynamics, migration and settlement; earthquakes, volcanoes, rivers, coasts, weather and ecosystems; and development, food production, industry, tourism and energy. Throughout, lessons build the geographical skills that the exams reward — map and photograph interpretation, data collection and presentation, and clear, structured analysis.
Topics covered.
Population & settlement
Population dynamics, migration, population structure and density, rural and urban settlements, and the challenges of rapid urbanisation.
Earthquakes, volcanoes & tectonics
Plate boundaries, the causes and effects of earthquakes and volcanoes, the hazards they bring and how their impacts can be reduced.
Rivers & coasts
Erosion, transportation and deposition; river and coastal landforms; coral reefs and mangroves; flooding, coastal hazards and their management.
Weather, climate & ecosystems
Collecting and interpreting weather data, equatorial and hot desert climates, tropical rainforest and desert ecosystems, and deforestation.
Economic development
Measuring development, employment sectors and globalisation, food production, industry, tourism and energy, illustrated with case studies.
Geographical & data skills
Map and photograph interpretation, satellite images, statistical techniques, graphs and diagrams, and structured fieldwork enquiry.

How progress is measured.
Cambridge IGCSE Geography (0460). All candidates sit Paper 1 Geographical Themes (1h 45m, 45%) and Paper 2 Geographical Skills (1h 30m, 27.5%), plus either Component 3 Coursework or Paper 4 Alternative to Coursework (1h 30m, 27.5%) — at BOS, students take the externally assessed Paper 4. We set regular case-study and skills tasks, run full mock papers each half term and mark to Cambridge exam standard so families always know where a student stands.

IGCSE Geography is a strong foundation for A-Level Geography, Environmental Science, Economics and urban planning, and develops the analytical, evaluative and data-handling skills valued across every discipline.
