General

What are the advantages of studying at BOS?

Students can study from anywhere in the world. All lessons are delivered live in real-time by expert teachers following the British curriculum. Every lesson is recorded so students can catch up on missed classes and use recordings to revise for exams.

How do students attend school?

Students log in to the student portal and online classroom at the time of their lessons. Teachers use voice, text, interactive whiteboards, presentations, screen sharing and breakout rooms to deliver engaging lessons — just like a physical classroom, but online.

What are the school timings?

Tutor time begins at 08:15. Live lessons run from 09:00 to approximately 15:15, Monday to Thursday, UK time (GMT/UTC). Fridays are independent study days. Extracurricular clubs run after school.

Is BOS legally allowed to operate internationally?

The British Online School complies with all UK laws. We advise prospective parents to check their particular circumstances with their local authorities.

Is BOS accredited?

We follow Cambridge Assessment International Education standards and our students sit Cambridge IGCSEs. The school complies with ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) guidelines.

Teaching & Learning

How many children are in a class?

A maximum of twenty students per class. This allows focused, individualised attention for every child.

How do you teach practical subjects like science?

We use online teacher demonstrations, on-screen experiments, simulations and video resources. Our exam boards do not require examined practicals but do require knowledge of practical experiments — all of which are covered in our lessons.

What is the difference between GCSE and IGCSE?

IGCSEs do not include coursework contributing to the final grade and can be taken internationally, whereas GCSEs are UK-only. Both are recognised equally for A-Levels and further education. We recommend verifying acceptance with specific institutions or professional bodies.

Wellbeing

Will my child miss out on social interaction?

Children are encouraged to be communicative and collaborative during lessons. We also run extracurricular clubs on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We strongly encourage families to integrate their child into local activities such as sports, outdoor pursuits and music.

What about physical education and exercise?

Every student has PE twice per week as part of the timetable.

Admissions & Fees

How much does online schooling cost?

We do not raise fees as students progress through the year groups. A one-time admin fee of £495 applies per student. Full pricing is available on our Admissions page.

How long do I have to commit?

We offer flexible payment options — termly or yearly. You are not tied to any lock-in contracts, though non-refundable fees are paid in advance.

Is there a minimum age to enrol?

We accept students from age 7 (Year 3) through to age 16 (Year 11).

Do I need special equipment?

A PC or Mac with up-to-date software, a reliable broadband connection and a headset with a microphone. iPads and Android tablets may not support all classroom features.

What level of English is required?

To fully benefit from our teaching, applicants who are not native English speakers should demonstrate a level of competence that enables them to succeed in their studies.
