Key Stage 3 · Years 7–9 · Ages 11–14

Learn to think computationally. Our KS3 Computer Science programme covers programming, algorithms, data and digital literacy, preparing students for IGCSE and beyond.

Overview

What to expect.

Students learn to write code in Python, understand how computers process information and develop problem-solving skills through computational thinking. Lessons are practical and project-based, with students building programs, debugging code and applying algorithms to real-world problems. Digital literacy topics including cyber security and ethical computing are woven throughout.

Programming fundamentals

Variables, data types, selection, iteration and functions in Python. Writing, testing and debugging programs.

Algorithms & logic

Flowcharts, pseudocode, searching, sorting and understanding algorithmic efficiency.

Data representation

Binary, hexadecimal, ASCII, images and sound. How computers store and process information.

Computer systems

Hardware, software, operating systems, networks and the internet. Understanding how technology works.

Cyber security & ethics

Online safety, data protection, encryption, malware and the ethical implications of technology.

Assessment

How progress is measured.

Practical programming projects assessed on functionality, code quality and documentation. Half-term tests cover theory topics. Termly reports track both practical and theoretical progress.

Where it leads.

KS3 Computer Science leads into IGCSE Computer Science at KS4, where students deepen their programming skills and study computer architecture, data structures and algorithms for the Cambridge examination.

Live & interactive.

Every lesson is delivered live by a qualified teacher. Students participate through voice, chat, whiteboards and breakout rooms.

Small classes.

Maximum fifteen students per class. Every child gets individual attention, feedback and support throughout the lesson.

Recorded for review.

Every lesson is recorded and available on the student portal. Students can re-watch, revise and catch up at any time.
