We are delighted to welcome your child to The British Online School. For the purposes of this document, references to “Parent(s)” include legal guardians and any person with parental responsibility for the student.
1. Introduction
These Terms and Conditions set out the basis upon which The British Online School agrees to provide educational services to your child. The British Online School is a Cambridge-accredited online school delivering a British curriculum through live, interactive online lessons.
By accepting a place, parents acknowledge that they have read, understood and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.
2. Duration of enrolment
This agreement remains in force until:
- The student completes their education with the School;
- The Parent(s) formally withdraw the student in accordance with these Terms and Conditions;
- The School terminates enrolment in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.
3. Authority of the Principal
Parents authorise the Principal, Deputy Head or any authorised member of the Senior Leadership Team to take reasonable decisions and actions considered necessary for the welfare, education, safeguarding and day-to-day management of the student.
4. Provision of education
The School will use all reasonable endeavours to provide a high-quality educational experience through its online learning platform. Whilst the School aims to support every student to achieve their academic potential, no guarantee can be given regarding:
- Examination results;
- Academic performance;
- University, college or employment outcomes;
- Admission to any other educational institution.
The School reserves the right to make reasonable changes to curriculum, staffing, timetables, systems and policies where required.
5. Examinations
The British Online School prepares students for external examinations but does not generally act as an examination centre. Parents remain responsible for:
- Registering students as private candidates;
- Selecting and booking examination centres;
- Paying examination fees;
- Meeting all deadlines;
- Ensuring attendance at required practical or coursework components where applicable.
The School will provide reasonable guidance but accepts no responsibility for external arrangements.
6. Fees and payments
6.1 Admissions fee
A non-refundable admissions fee of £495 is payable upon submission of the admissions form.
6.2 Tuition fees
Enrolment represents a commitment to the full academic year unless otherwise agreed in writing.
6.3 Payment options
Fees may be paid annually, termly or monthly where agreed. Failure to meet payment deadlines may result in suspension of access to lessons and platforms.
6.4 Late payments
Late payments may incur a £25 administration charge per reminder issued. The School reserves the right to suspend access until payment is received.
6.5 Refunds
Fees are non-refundable once a student has commenced learning, except where required by law.
7. Withdrawal from the School
Withdrawal must be completed via the official School Leaving Form. Notice given by email, telephone or informal communication is not valid. Fees remain payable in accordance with the agreed payment plan.
8. Photographs, recordings and publicity
The School may use photographs, videos, audio recordings, lesson recordings, student work, testimonials, competition results, academic achievements and examples of student participation for educational, safeguarding, administrative, promotional, marketing and community purposes.
Such content may be used across School platforms including the website, social media channels, newsletters, learning platforms, presentations, advertisements, internal communications and other official School publications.
Parents provide their media consent preferences during the admissions process. The School will process and use personal data, images and recordings in accordance with the consent provided at the point of enrolment. Parents may withdraw or amend their consent at any time by contacting the School in writing. The School will take reasonable steps to implement changes promptly. However, parents acknowledge that it may not be possible to remove content that has already been published, shared, archived or circulated prior to the withdrawal of consent.
The School may also use anonymised student work, academic data and feedback for reporting, development and promotional purposes. All content will be used responsibly and in line with the School's safeguarding and data protection obligations.
9. Data protection
The School processes personal data in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Data is used for admissions, education delivery, safeguarding, communication, reporting and administration. Information may be shared with trusted third-party providers where necessary for the operation of the School. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
10. Lesson recordings
Lessons may be recorded for safeguarding, quality assurance and educational purposes. Recordings are stored securely and accessed only by authorised users.
11. Internet safety and acceptable use
Students must use School systems appropriately and follow all platform rules. Misuse may result in disciplinary action including suspension.
12. Study environment
Parents are responsible for ensuring an appropriate learning environment, including internet access and suitable equipment.
13. Discipline
The Principal has authority over all disciplinary matters, including suspension or exclusion where necessary. See our Behaviour & Camera Policy for full details.
14. Force majeure
The School is not liable for disruption caused by events outside its reasonable control.
15. Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of England and Wales.
16. Consumer cancellation rights
Statutory cancellation rights may apply. Where students access learning within the cancellation period, these rights may be affected in line with consumer law.
